The beautiful town of Mackay enjoys great weather most of the year, particularly in winter (Jun-Aug). Surrounded by sugar cane fields and the Coral Sea, the town’s peaceful setting belies its busy nightlife, things to do and places to shop. Do try one or more of the many al-fresco restaurants when here, especially for the fresh seafood.
Mackay Coast Central Queensland
The nearby National Parks are stunning, particularly Eungella, over 125,000 acres of rugged mountain terrain, with spectacular waterfalls, abundant wildlife, particularly birdlife and deep gorges cut by streams into the volcanic rock. The park has some 25kms of walking tracks through the rainforest. At the viewing deck at Broken River you can spot platypus.
To the East, the Queensland coast north of Townsville to Cairns and beyond is a region of stunning natural beauty, encompassing two World Heritage areas, the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics. Capricorn Coast and the Cairns and Far North Queensland.
