Penguins Bournda Nat Park NSWPhoto: Unusual rock formations formed from ancient lavaflows and the effects of the weather and sea. The volcanic flows that produced Tura Head Island and strange rock formations happened a million years ago. Note: the rock formations, as well as the flora and fauna of the park are all protected. You can also spot dolphins and penguins along the coast, and whales during their season, usually June, July and August. Even better is to watch them return with their calves to their feeding grounds in the Antartic via the Sapphire Coast, from September to November. Enquire at the Merimbula Tourist Information Centre about the many national parks, activities, things to do, camp sites and picnic areas, lakes, unique flora and fauna on the Sapphire Coast.
