Byfield National Park, Australia

Situated in the North of Queensland, Byfield National Park is a beautiful coastal region that protects rare wildlife and flora.

Located some 70 kilometres north east of Rockhampton in (approx. 1 hour drive) of Capricorn Queensland, the park and the Blyfield State Forest and the Byfield Conservation Park cover some 39,000 hectares of Queensland Coast.

The park has magnificent sand dunes, some as far as five to six kilometres inland. There are rugged mountain peaks and you will find long sweeping views of splendiferous coastal scenery.

Things to do here include camping, picnics, long and short walks, fishing, swimming and surfing.

The Dharumbal people, the original inhabitants of this region whose descendants still live and work here ask that you respect the land and enjoy your visit.

Exploring the Park: Walks and 4WD

Most of the park is only accessible via foot with excellent walks available of varying difficulty and lengths. There are also 4 Wheel Drive tracks, graded for the beginner to the experienced 4WD driver.

Places to Visit

Adjoining the park is the Byfield State Forest, there are some roads that are suitable for a 2 wheel drive vehicle that can take you to scenic places along the coast as well as Sandy Point in the National Park.

Capricorn Coast Information Centre

Located on the Scenic Highway, Yeppoon, the Information Centre has information on the parks in the region as well as the attractions, beaches and other Capricorn places to visit.

Camping Permits

There are designated areas where camping is allowed. You will need a camping permit to do so in the Byfield parks and forest. You can make bookings at the Capricorn Coast Information Centre or the Byfield General Store, open during business hours.
