Adelaide Beaches (South)

Most of the beaches immediatedly west and southwest of the city are just as nice as the many northwest Beaches of Adelaide. Some would argue even nicer.

West Beach

The beachside suburb of West Beach also has a great beach, wonderful for swimming and a family day out. Situated between the popular beachside suburbs of Glenelg and Henley. There is actually a number of family suitable accommodation places here, including a caravan park and a resort. A large shopping centre is located here as well, a favourite with locals and visitors.

Glenelg

Glenelg has not only a great beach to spend the day at, but a very active night life. Luxury hotels and resorts are also situated here, while a regular tram service can take you to the city and back. It also has a wide variety of restaurants and other eateries to choose from as well as bars and entertainment venues.

The beach itself stretches for a long way with soft, crystal white sands. There is a long jetty there, suitable for fishing from or if on the beach, provides shade.

Somerton Beach

The two kilometre long beach at Somerton is quite popular with the locals of Adelaide. Fishing is popular here as is enjoying the magnificent beach for swimming and a great day out. It stretches from Glenelg to the beach at Brighton. There are plenty of places to eat, the surf club watches over swimmers between flagged areas during the warmer months and weekends. Remember to swim between the flags!

Brighton

Situated between Seacliff and Somerton, the beachside suburb of Brighton has a long beach, suitable for families. Small shops and a variety of eateries are conveniently located behind the beach. A caravan parks provides a variety of family accommodation, including not only sites for caravans, but cabins and ocean view villas.

Seacliff Beach

This pleasant beach is normally quite safe for swimming. The presence of a Surf Life Saving Club only makes it better when swimming between the flags.

At high tide you can find good fishing here at Mario Rocks.
