Public Transport in Sydney Australia

Convenient ways to see popular Sydney Attractions include cruises on Sydney Harbour, as well as city tours, available from places like Circular Quay at Sydney Cove and Darling Harbour.

Circular Quay is a major terminus for trains, buses including bus tours, ferries and harbour cruises, as well as taxis. If your staying in the city, it is a good place to start exploring Sydney.

Circular Quay is also within walking distance to the Sydney Opera House and the restored historical district of The Rocks, where the convicts were initially housed after the First Fleet to Australia arrived.

Darling Harbour is just to the west of the city centre, and as well as being host to a number of attractions such as the Wildlife Centre and the National Maritime Museum it is also Sydney’s entertainment centre.

Visitor Bus Services

Note: There are free shuttle (green) bus services that operate along George Street in Sydney city center every 10 minutes, as well as Parramatta and Wollongong. Operating in a loop to make it easy for you to get from one end of the City center to the other with stops in-between. Look for the bus stops that display the shuttle logo (green). The Sydney city route number is 555.

In the Sydney CBD during the Week: 9:00am to 3:30pm, on Thursdays till 9:00pm
Weekends: 9:30am to 6:00pm

Sydney Tours

To catch the city’s sights and main attractions, take the Red Explorer Bus. This bus service takes you to places of interest around city central, such as the Sydney Opera House, Kings Cross, Royal Botanical Gardens, The Australian Museum and more.

Departing every 18 minutes, the service runs from 8.40am to 5.22pm every day of the week, except Christmas Day.

The Sydney Explorer and Bondi Explorer Buses allow visitors to ride and hop off along the route when visiting Sydney City or Eastern Suburbs and Bondi attractions, complete with commentary. More about Sydney Tours.

Trains in Sydney

The Seven Day Rail Pass allows you to unlimited train travel within the area and dates indicated on your ticket. You can purchase them from vending machines at any Sydney train station or at the railway ticket office.

Central Train Station, Circular Quay, Town Hall and Wynyard are major city terminuses for buses as well as trains. You can catch ferries and Jetcats at Circular Quay. See Sydney Trains Map - Sydney Circular Quay Map.

Ferries

The city evolved around Sydney Harbour - Ferries or Jetcats from Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, or Parramatta are an enjoyable way to see Sydney Harbour.

Ferries can take you to Balmain, Darling Harbour, the Sydney North Shore, Manly Beach, Rose Bay, Parramatta, Double Bay and Taronga Zoo.

Both the Manly Ferry and the Parramatta Jetcat give you stunning views of the beautiful Sydney Harbour. Another way to enjoy Sydney Harbour is take one of the many Sydney Harbour Cruises from Circular Quay in the City.

You can purchase a FerryTen ticket for ferry rides for up to 10 times at a discount. Ferries can take you to Balmain, Darling Harbour, the North Shore, Manly (a great way to see the harbour), Rose Bay, Parramatta, Double Bay and Taronga Zoo. Bondi Beach

The Bondi Explorer Bus Service takes you not only to Bondi Beach, but also to South Head, Tamarama, Bronte and Coogee Beaches and through the picturesque Sydney eastern suburbs.
