Now also considered a gathering place for Melbournians, Federation Square has a number of significant centres housed there. The Ian Potter Centre, has one of the most significant collections of Australian art, from the early settler days and Heidelberg School to the latest, modern contemporary art.
It encourages for people of all ages the enjoyment of art with special exhibitions through the year. Photography, prints, drawings, the decorative arts and fashion are all included, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art.
Another centre at Federation Square, the Australian Centre of Moving Imgaes (ACMI) houses an excellent collection of Australian Film and other moving images which you can view. It also hosts everchanging exhibitions about moving images, from simple animations to Australian produced movies of world stature. Digital, Film and TV are all explored.
