Melbourne - State Victoria Library

State Library of Victoria, located on the corner of La Trobe Street and Swanston Street in the Melbourne CBD. Ongoing changing exhibits feature the history and culture of Melbourne.

The neo-classical design features Corinthian columns along the facade. The building was designed in 1854 by the renowned architect Joseph Reed. The beautiful reading room, added in 1913 with its soaring 5 sided domed roof, is stunning.

The library maintains wonderful collections about the cultural and social history of Victoria Australia with more than 2 million books.

At the library you can explore everything from Victoria architecture to extremely rare books. Science, literature, business, maps, even a working model of Ned Kelly’s armour.
