Victoria Australia is packed with treasures. This compact state has thirteen regions to explore - including, of course Melbourne Austraila and the twelve scenic regional playgrounds, each with its own distinctive charms and flavours.

Regions of Victoria

Regional Victoria - Follow the links on the right to see more about each region:

Macedon Ranges and Spa Country

The Macedon Ranges and Spa Country - Pure indulgence awaits with a hedonistic mix of scenic surroundings, a thriving arts and craft community, award-winning food, more than 30 wineries, and the famous natural mineral springs which have been drawing visitors for over 150 years.

Melbourne’s Bays and Peninsulas

Melbourne’s Bays and Peninsulas - Comprising the Bellarine and Mornington peninsulas and the Port Phillip and Westernport bays, the region is renowned for its beaches, golf courses, wineries, national parks, abundant wildlife and roadside vistas providing sweeping coastal views.

Goldfields Victoria

The Goldfields - Victoria’s Goldrush days, which began 150 years ago, have left a rich and lasting legacy of beautiful Victorian architecture and multicultural traditions.

The pursuit of the precious metal brought Victoria immense prosperity in the 1850s, and the cities of Ballarat, Bendigo and Stawell bordering the region contain a number of monuments to this golden era. Sovereign Hill in Ballarat is a reconstructed mining settlement.

Goulburn Murray Waters

Goulburn Murray Waters - Named for its two famous rivers, the Murray and the Goulburn, this inland water playground is perfect for house-boating, swimming, sailing, waterskiing, trout and Murray Cod fishing. Historic towns and a rich river heritage of paddle steamers, houseboats and river red gums offers a true slice of Australiana.

Grampians

The Grampians - Scenery guaranteed to impress: dramatic peaks, sheer-sided cliffs, valleys and fast-flowing waterfalls.

This spectacular rocky fortress featuring colourful wildflowers, abundant wildlife and ancient Aboriginal rock artis accessible via a 160 kilometre network of walking tracks. Sail at Lake Hamilton, canoe and waterski at Lake Fyan, or fish at some of the best inland spots in Australia.

Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road - This road winds westwards from the major regional city of Geelong to the South Australian border. Featuring striking ocean views, laidback coastal towns and maritime villages, the region is perfect for bushwalking, swimming, surfing, fishing and whale-watching.

Gippsland Lakes and Wilderness

Gippsland Lakes and Wilderness - both wonderful flora and fauna is found here. Fed by the waters of five major rivers and fringed by Ninety-Mile Beach, the lakes and river system is perfect for swimming, fishing, boating and sailing.

You can also dine al fresco at a lakeside restaurant or pub, have a family picnic by the river, or take a stroll through the many seaside villages.

The region’s jewel in the crown is Croajingolong National Park, recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as a World Biosphere Reserve.

Legends, Wine and High Country

Legends, Wine and High Country Alpine Region - Fine wines and gourmet delights pepper the lush valleys and foothills of the high country, backgrounded with a fascinating heritage of bushrangers, horsemen and gold.

Explore the legend of Ned Kelly, Australia’s most famous bushranger, or discover the enduring spirit of the high country’s horsemen and rugged adventurers.

Mildura and Murray Outback

Mildura and Murray Outback - Striking contrasts dominate this landscape, bordered by New South Wales and South Australia in the far northwest corner of Victoria.

It is characterised by lush, irrigated orchards and vineyards set against the arid red soil and shifting sand dunes of the surrounding desert. Wine and dine in style, and experience the serenity of vast outback wilderness.

Phillip Island and Gippsland Discovery

Phillip Island and Gippsland Discovery - Stretching from Melbourne’s suburban fringe east to the Gippsland Lakes, and inland from Mt Baw Baw to Wilsons Promontory, this region offers incredible diversity of landscapes - from snow-capped mountains to lush rolling hills and wide sandy beaches.

Phillip Island is a family coastal getaway with its famous fairy penguins. Gippsland is gourmet country, and at the Australian mainland’s southernmost point is Wilsons Promontory National Park.

Yarra Valley, Dandenongs and The Ranges

Yarra Valley, Dandenongs and The Ranges - In this region with beautiful villages, you can drive through tall mountain ash, stop at a winery for lunch or head up to the mountains for some cross country skiing.

Dotted throughout the Dandenong Ranges are quaint villages such as Olinda, Gembrook, Belgrave, Emerald and Sassafras, home to some of Melbourne’s best gardens, and famous for Devonshire cream teas.
