The National Library of Australia is a repository of more than seven million books and a whole lot more. Here you can find Australia’s finest collection of Australian literature and heritage documents.
One of the wonderful attractions of the National Library is the Treasures Gallery. Here, there are exhibits as well as maps, books and manuscripts pertaining to Australia’s history and heritage. They also have paintings, audiovisual presentations and artefacts from historical figures and times.
One of the most outstanding is Captain Cook’s journal from his journeys on the Endeavour. The exhibits are changed on a regular basis, ensuring a different experience whenever you visit.
The collections held by the library include some of the earliest European works about the ’Great Southern Land.’ to modern day works. There are books, magazines, photographs, maps, music sheets and everything to do with this country, the Pacific and indigenous culture.
