Long established as Australia’s premier market for goods, fresh produce and other fresh foods, you can also buy shoes, clothing and much more. Enjoy breakfast or lunch there at the many cafés or check out the many delicatessens selling Australian smallgoods or from around the world.
The market itself is a National Heritage Building, having been in existence for over 140 years.
Wednesday there is a night market, featuring street food from all over the world, as well as live music and other entertainment. Multicultural speciality shops complete the picture.
Nearby is String Bean Alley, here you can shop for books, arts and crafts, beauty products, chocolates and very fashionable jewellery.
Getting here: You can take Melbourne Trams 19, 57, 58 and 59. They will take to the front entrance, or you can simply walk from Flagstaff Train Station or Melbourne Central Station (approx seven minutes).
Melbourne Central Station features the Shot Tower and a shopping centre. More places to shop here include the QV Melbourne, the Emporium and the David Jones and Myer’s department Stores.
At the Lygon St Precinct, there are fabulous restaurants and other places to eat and drink.
At the Arts House, you can experience some of Melbourne’s latest contemporary artworks.
