Taree and nearby Cundletown
Taree, on the banks of the Manning River, is the commercial hub of the Manning Valley Region and a growing modern town. Yet it has a number of beautiful riverside parks and reserves.
There are plenty of boating ramps for boating enthusiasts here, as well as in most of the smaller surrounding villages and towns, allowing you quick access to the Manning River and the many tributaries.
Accommodation in both Taree and nearby Cundletown includeds motels, caravan parks, hotels and nearby country style B&Bs and retreats and you can find a growing list of restaurants, eateries, pubs, clubs and fast food outlets. It also has good shopping facilities and the surrounding area of Taree is gaining a reputation for its locally producted handicrafts. With the wide variety of accommodation available to suit most budgets, Taree can be a good place to base yourself for exploring this attractive part of the North Coast.

Manning Valley Places to Visit
Just to the north of Taree is the Coorabakh National Park. The remnants of ancient volcanoes dot the landscape, including the Big Nellie, Fat Nellie and Little Nellie. There are some great walking tracks for you to try, offering magnificent views of the surrounding rainforests and volcanic formations.
Harrington
Located just South East of Taree, Harrington is on the banks of the Manning River, where you can find picnic areas and sandy beaches for swimming.
Manning Point
Located at the mouth of the north arm of the Manning River to the sea and just 30 minutes east of Taree, Manning Point is a major centre for oyster production. Plenty of boating and water activities are available. There is also protected swimming for the kids and family at the Manning Point beaches.
Hallidays Point
Located between Taree and Forster is the coastal area of Hallidays Point. One of the beach villages on this part of the NSW coast is Black Head beach, a charming place that has won awards from the Keep Australia Beautiful Program for cleanliness and friendly locals.
The littoral rainforest walk, between the two headlands of Black head and Red Head takes you past rare coastal rainforests, dramatic coastal scenery and Black Head Beach.
Tinonee
Tinonee has a good selection of art galleries and is gaining a reputation for an arts and crafts centre. Indigenous arts and crafts, handcrafted local goods and pottery can be found here. It is also a good spot for water-skiing and boating.
Two places to try, the Artisans Retreat, a teahouse with a gallery for locally made art and handicrafts, or if your between the towns of Tinonee and Wingham, the Mondrook Garden Café and Gallery. The beautiful garden and surrounds make for a peaceful and enjoyable rest stopover.
Wingham
The oldest town in the Manning Valley is Heritage Listed Wingham. Only 13kms North West of Taree, you can find a number of heritage buildings surrounding a central village park. At the town square on Farquhar Street is the The Manning Valley Historical Museum, with historical memorabilia of the NSW North Coast.
Located close to the town centre is the Wingham Brush Nature Reserve, just off Farquhar Street. Here is the last remnant of floodplain rainforest found in NSW, birds, marsupials and grey headed flying foxes make their home here. Next to nature reserve are parklands and aquatic areas including picnic, bbq and boat ramp facilities.
