Batemans Bay was originally named by Captain Cook when he first charted this part of the NSW Coast. Located on the southerly part of Shoalhaven, its temperate climate and cosmopolitan lifestyle has proved to be an attraction for visitors from overseas and Australia for many years.
Batemans Bay Marine Park has excellent diving, it covers more than 85,000 hectares, extending from Wallaga Lake in the South to the North end of Murramarang Beach. Inhabited by diverse sea life, including bottlenose dolphins, weedy sea-dragons, eastern blue devil fish, whales, penguins, fur seals and endangered grey nurse sharks. Other things to do here include recreational fishing (in designated areas) swimming, surfing and boating.
Nearby places to explore include Kangaroo Valley, Berry, Nowra, Jervis Bay, Ulladulla, Mogo Town and Mollymook. But there are also pristine lakes and lagoons, stunning beaches and National Parks, including Murramurang National Park and Budawang. At Budawang there are three mountains to explore, Sugarloaf, Currockbill and Budawang, the easiest of the three to walk to the top for great views.
