Finding a good place to eat is not difficult in Melbourne, in fact, it has acquired a reputation for not only fine dining but other great breakfast, lunch and dinner options. With all the localities in the suburbs that have developed fantastic places to go to eat, the city still has the best concentration.

Grub

Despite the food being served from a caravan and eaten in the surrounding garden, the Grub Food Van is not to be sniffed at. Serving delicious and though not the cheapest, still reasonably priced food made from in season and from fresh local ingredients. Some suggestions to try; Crispy Skin Barramundi, Gumbo served with Corn Bread and the Pomegranate Braised Lamb Shoulder.

Grub Food Van

Miss Katie’s Crab Shack

Located by the Rochester Hotel, Melbourne’s favourite rock and roll pub, serving dishes like Crispy Fried School Prawns, or the Fried Chicken or the Crab Boil. Despite mixed reviews, it is worth trying if you like your music loud and bopping and your food tasty and filling.

This Indian restaurant has a select list of curries, all at affordable prices. There are also street eats from places afar as Bombay and Tibet and of course, Tandoori such as Paneer Tikka and Spicy Lamb Chops. they also have the alltime favourite of Butter Chicken, a slow cooked Goat Curry and Lamb Saag. Order some delicious sides with that, and it still comes in as affordable.

This burger bar also has favourites, but classics. Burgers include the 8bit with Cheese with their special sauce, the After Burner, with hot spicy flavours and the Golden Axe, a Crispy Fried Chicken burger with Cheese, special Mayo and Slaw. There are other locations, including at Footscray, their original and the second city location at 1/360 Collins Street.

Oh, yeah, Mexican. A cuisine somewhat neglected in other major Australian cities and towns but celebrated in style in Melbourne. Mesa Verde does not disappoint: Awesome Tacos and mains such as Chipotle Chicken Enchiladas and Twice Cooked Lamb Ribs, tender and tasty. My mouth waters already...
