Fitzroy, being the Bohemian district just north of the Melbourne City Centre has attractions, excellent restaurants, trendy bars and a wide diversity of shops, particularly along Brunswick, Gertrude and Smith Streets. You can find something to do, eat and drink early in the morning late into the night.
There is a good collection of art galleries here, the Alcaston Gallery, Brunswick Street Gallery, PanelPop, Pieces of Eight, Sutton Gallery, Window99 and the Centre for Contemporary Photography.
Trams from the city will get you to the main streets of Fitzroy from the city, number 86 (Docklands) 96 (East Brunswick) and 112 (West Preston). Buses include route number 200 (Bulleen), 201 (Doncaster) and 207 (Donsdale).
