Federation Square Melbourne Victoria

This multi-purpose venue has restaurants, bars and other places to eat, but also houses the ACMI - Australian Centre for the Moving Image and the Ian Potter Centre, part of the art collection of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV).

Opened in 2002 it is easy to get to by tram, bus and train, the square is strategically placed on Flinders Street and Swanston Street, just across the road from Flinders St Train Station. One of the top 10 places to visit in Melbourne.

The main building remains controversial, because of the colouring scheme, the wires and lighting in the square and the block design. However, there are those who consider the architecture as distinct and instantly recognisable the world over.

Ian Potter Centre

Also at Federation Square and well worth a visit for the Australian Art on display, the Ian Potter Centre has well known artworks and other works by famous artists in its collections.

With the housing of the ACMI, the Ian Potter Centre at the complex, important changing exhibitions, entertainment and the many facilities available as well as its strategic and scenic location, it will remain an important Melbourne landmark for as long there is a city.
