Visit Mildura

Mildura, noted for its sunshine, is a center for great food and wines. Yet there is more, with its annual Jazz Food and Wine Festival and myriad of things to do while here.

Mildura is also famous for its location on the grand Murray River, as it waters the surrounding region due to the water irrigation systems set up by the noted Chafley Brothers.

There are some great places to eat, as well as dine in Mildura. Experience the freshest of local produce, including cheeses, wines, the local brew and fine foods that can be found here.

Mungo National Park

Mungo National Park, famous for its oldest man fossils, Mungo Man and Mungo Lady is vast desert area that was covered by waters many times in its past, till about fifteen thousand years ago. Giant animals roamed this region at other times, including wombats and kangaroos.

Now a beautiful desert, much life still abounds here, adapted to the desert conditions. Red Kangaroos can be seen, as are wedge-tailed eagles. Lizards and snakes also inhabit this region, but you have to be more quiet to spot them.

More than 40,000 years old, Mungo Man and Mungo Lady still have a story to tell. At the Barmah Forest Heritage and Education Centre, located in the Mungo National Park, you can find out about the Aboriginal lifestyle, foods and culture that existed then and now.

Heritage

Mildura’s heritage dates back well before its establishment as a planned town in the late 1800s. Yet, since then, a lot has happened as well. Places to visit here include the Old Wentworth Gaol, the Riverboat Paddlesteamers that plied the waters back and forth for many years at Wentworth Wharf and Bonegilla Migrant Experience, learn the stories of the many settlers that came to this region through the years.

Murray River

The Murray flows some 2,700 kms from the Snowy Mountain Ranges and along the NSW and Victoria border to South Australia, near Adelaide.

Exploring North

To the north is the New South Wales Riverina Region and the Outback: Riverina Region.
