Aboriginal artist Amunda Gorey created this work of art using synthetic polymer paint on one of the fibreglass statues of Jesus.
Amunda Gorey: An Arrernte artist from Central Australia, she grew up in an artistic family in Darwin, Australia where she was always surrounded by those keen to express their creativity.
A finalist in the 2008 National Indigenous Ceramics award and also the 2007 Memento Awards Exhibition, Brisbane. She has since then achieved much and has had exhibits around the country.
To quote Pope John Paul II ‘For thousands of years you have lived in this land and fashioned a culture that endures to this day’. Amunda Gorey is proof of this.
The statues were used by young artists for a young audience.
Designed for display around the city, they will be sold after the World Youth Day events. The proceeds will go towards a youth-specific charity.
