Darwin is the capital of the Northern Territory, settled in 1864. While very much a new town, its history short, there has been some notable experiences that have shaped this far north Australia city.
There was a gold rush here in the 1890s, it came under attack a number of times from the Japanese air force during WWII and suffered massive destruction during the cyclone Tracy in 1974.
Darwin International Airport is just to the north of the map, located off the Stuart Highway.
The Northern Territory offers adventure - Uluru (Ayers Rock) is near Yulara in the South West of the State, while in the north, there are the stunning National Parks of Kakadu and Litchfield, amongst many others.
