On the Sapphire Coast, things to do include exploring historical towns, walking the great National Parks of the South Coast, swimming at stunning beaches or peaceful lakes, swimming, surfing, sky diving and horse riding. The list is almost endless in this part of NSW, a nature wonderland while the rest of the world seems to race in development.

South of Sydney, on the Far South Coast of NSW, the region is described as the Sapphire Coast, distinguishing itself from Eurobodalla and Shoalhaven further north and Victoria, located just over the border in the south.

Exploring Historic Towns

Exploring historic towns like Pambula Beach, Merimbula, Eden, Bermagui and the fertile Bega Valley.

Go for a walk on the boardwalk - at Narooma, Eden or Merimbula. Explore colonial history at Central Tilba or pan for gold at Old Mogo Town.

Kids and Families

For the kids, take them to Magic Mountain near Tura Beach, located just off the Princes Highway for fun rides and waterslides. Visit the Eden Killer Whale Museum or take them to the Pambula Aquarium.

Visit one or more of the stunning National Parks along the coast and in the hinterlands. Go swimming in the calmer lagoons and have a picnic at one of the many parks. The Sapphire Coast is blessed with extensive lakes and waterways, stunning beaches, vast national parks and nature reserves.

Take a whale watching cruise from Eden to see these majestic creatures or dolphins in their habitat. Take surfing or diving lessons.

Fishing

Go deep sea fishing with a Fishing Charter at Bermagui and Eden or go boating at Tathra Beach or on the lakes. Try sea kayaking or canoeing on one of the many lakes, rivers and lagoons in the region.

Enjoy Fresh Oysters

The many lakes and waterways of the South Coast teem with life, oyster farmers take advantage of the clean waters of Pambula Lake, producing some of Australia’s most succulent oysters. You can often purchase them from the farmers direct, lakeside, if you ask nicely.

You can enjoy some of the freshest seafood in many of the restaurants found on this part of the South Coast in Australia.

Further Afield

To the west, you can head up through Bega Valley up to the Snowy Mountains, only three hours drive. Just to the south, explore Mallacoota and the scenic Gippsland in North East Victoria.
