Literally beginning at the outer reaches of Melbourne, the Macedon Region spreads to the rolling hills of the Macedon Ranges and Kyneton. The Macedon Ranges, between Daylesford and Melbourne, are filled with boutique wineries, vineyards and renowned commercial producers. A wonderfully diverse region steeped in history, you will find magnificent homesteads, manicured gardens and rugged bushland.

You can visit some of Victoria’s most picturesque wineries here, producing a range of superb, cool climate wines. They also offer fine dining as well as bed and breakfast accommodation.

Everything from full-flavoured reds to delicate, aromatic whites from over 16 wineries are waiting to be tasted. Signature wine styles: Sparkling wines, Riesling and Chardonnay.

And what would a regional Victorian town be without classy wineries located nearby? Also on the route is Hanging Rock, the stunning granite monolith made world famous by the movie Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Daylesford

For those looking for pampering, Daylesford and Hepburn Springs, deep in Victoria’s spa country has the largest concentration of natural spas in Australia. Visitors have been flocking to this area for just that since the 1800s. Cleveland Winery

Cellar door sales: 9am - 5pm daily. Cleveland is an historic manor house built in 1890 near Lancefield. Recently restored to its former glory it has a grand house, stables, woolshed and various outbuildings. The restaurant with outside deck overlooks picturesque countryside. The conference facilities are impressive.

The winery produces stylish sparkling wines and French style Pinot Noir and Chardonnay table wines.

Dining: Cleveland is open to the public for lunch on weekends and for groups by prior arrangement. Accommodation: 28 new ensuite rooms.

Glen Erin Vineyard Retreat

Cellar door sales: 10am - 5pm weekends and public holidays Wines offered at this professionally run restaurant and cellar door operation include Sparkling Macedon, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir made from estate grown grapes.

Dining: The Grange Restaurant offers full a la carte gourmet meals for lunch and dinner everyday and bookings are essential. Accommodation: Twenty four luxury ensuite rooms with private balconies overlooking the winery. Recreational facilities include heated swimming pool, tennis court, volleyball and badminton. Excellent conference facilities are available.

Goona Warra Vineyard

Cellar door sales: 10am - 5pm daily.

Located just 10 mins from Melbourne Airport, this spectacular 1860s bluestone winery with its surrounding vineyards and terrace gardens has private room functions in the Cellar and a magnificent Great Hall.

Dining: Quality contemporary cuisine for lunch every Sunday. Café for snacks and light lunches daily.

Witchmount Estate

Cellar door sales: 10am - 5pm daily.

Witchmount is attracting a lot of attention for its excellent wines, and cellar door prices are remarkably reasonable, given the wine quality.
