Rundle Mall Shopping

On the Map: Adelaide City Map: Places to Visit.

Rundle Mall has developed into the main place to shop in Adelaide, with its profusion of shopping arcades that lead off the main plaza. Within them are shops of all kinds, from boutiques and chocolate speciality suppliers to jewellery and everything in between.

Beehive Corner

On the corner of Rundle Mall and King William Street, there is the ’Beehive’ building, so named because of not only its interesting facade, but the large beehive and bee sitting on top of the building.

Its most prominent tenant is Haig’s Chocolates. Tempting the palates of the people of Adelaide since 1915, it recently celebrated its 100th Anniversary. A family business, it uses recipes for great chocolates, proven through time and tradition. Try them!

Myer Centre Adelaide

Another major shopping centre is the Myer Centre Adelaide. Within are more than ninety shops and eleven food kiosks. Speciality shops include the ABC shop, Australian Geographic and of course, the Myer departmen store.

Adelaide Arcade

This beautifully restored Italianate Arcade dates back to the mid 1800s. With construction beginning May 6th 1885, it was finished only a short time later, that same year, on December 12th. Notably, it was one of the first buildings in the city that had electric lighting throughout, powered by an power generator housed in the building itself.

Today, there are over one hundred shops here to choose from for your shopping needs. There is also a museum with artefacts and displays about the history of the Adelaide Arcade, on the balcony level of Gays Arcade.

There are even those who believe the arcade is haunted by a pair of friendly ghosts. 50,000 square feet of glass was used in its construction.

Adelaide Central Plaza

There’s plenty of fashion here at the Adelaide Central Plaza, located at 100 Rundle Mall. Stores include David Jones, a quality Australian retailer, Tiffany & Co., internationally renowned jewellers and more than a dozen boutiques and speciality shops.
