High Country - Victoria Snow and Alpine Eco Paradise

Located in the north east of Victoria, the High Country has the best of the snowfields in winter and beautiful Alpine country scenery the year round.

Mount Buller, Falls Creek and Mount Hotham are favourite winter retreats.

The Gold Rush days provided many of the towns in the region with wealth in the 1800s, and their much of their architecture reflects this.

Ned Kelly

Ned Kelly made his last stand at Glenrowan - a town with a lot of bushranger history to share. There are also wineries with cellar doors to sample local wines and at Buffalo Mountain Wines there are the vintages of over 22 wineries to sample.

The Great Alpine Road is a wonderful drive, with Australian Alpine scenery, historical towns and ample opportunity to sample the local food and wines.

Alpine Park

Alpine Park Victoria links with the Kosciusko National Park in NSW. It covers 646,000 Hectares with ranges, wild rivers, scenic views and forests.

Exploring the many walking trails in the park that lead to places like Lake Tali Karng and Moroka Falls are truly rewarding for those who love nature. The Wonnangatta Moroka section has remarkable scenery from its many peaks and lookouts.

Mount Feathertop, the second highest mountain peak in Victoria can be reached by foot, giving excellent views of the Victorian Alps.

Skiing and Snow Boarding

Falls Creek has excellent skiing and snow boarding, with courses for the inexperienced to the very experienced. Some of the steepest courses in Victoria are here. Skiing the half pipe at Falls Creek is a challenge, downhill, cross-country skiers, snowboarders all have facilities for them. As Victoria’s largest ski resort, accommodation includes resorts and hotels as well as cabins and lodges.

Mt Buller

At the center in the Victoria High Country, you can find courses ranging from the cruisy to seriously steep.

There is cross country, snowboarding, toboganning, telemarking and snow tubing as well as other snow activities including snow shoeing.

Mount Hotham

Most of the stays in Mount Hotham have grand views as well as the convenience of ski-in and ski-out. It retains the title of the 'Powder Capital' of Australia with more snowfall recorded here than anywhere else in the state. There are runs available for beginners to medium and experienced.

Accommodation in the area includes 5 star resorts, hotels and apartments as well as lodges and chalets.

The Rest of the Year

There is plenty of camping and fishing opportunities, the deep forests, grand views with mountain streams make for a wonderful experience. A lot of time and effort to preserve the area has made hiking, trekking and bushwalking here is well worth the effort.
