The First Fleet settled here and so began the Colony of New South Wales (NSW). Once a thick forest fed by a small stream, this place was chosen for its proximity to fresh water and wood.
The Sydney Opera House is located here at Bennelong Point, as is the Rocks, where the convicts were first settled. Now a busy interchange for ferries, buses, trains and taxis, this is a great place to begin your explorations of Sydney Australia.

What to Visit: Attractions in the City
The Rocks Historical District, at the foot of the city by Circular Quay, has cobbled streets, museums, shops, art galleries and restored buildings from the early 19th century.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a short walk away to the west. You can walk across the bridge for some grand views of the city and harbour, even better you can climb to the top of the arch with BridgeClimb.
