Here is a list of favourite places we found not only excellent food but good service making a the start of a great night out. Carlton just north of Melbourne’s CBD (Central Business District) has acquired a great repution for restaurants and other places to eat and drink.
Lygon street is probably the main attraction here for dining, here you can find a whole host of restaurants with al fresco dining, great for a balmy night. Not far, in the surrounding streets you can find many more, many that can and will surprise and delight!
Shinbashi Yakiniku Melbourne
You can experience great Japanese food here, contemporary cooking, made from fresh ingredients. Specialising in barbeque (Yakiniku) they also have fresh sashimi and of course select side dishes to go with them. Still, the BBQ is the feature here, from fresh seafood (don’t overcook) mouth watering wagyu beef and tender chicken and pork.

Situated in this historic Carlton Hotel, the restaurant has a range of original dishes that are normally featured in the ingredients of food served in fine dining establishments. Other dishes are what you would regard as pub fare, yet is delicious in their own right, stalwarts from a bygone age. The ambience is befitting, beautiful wood floors and the walls done in an art deco style.
Interestingly, on monday nights Korean food is featured, made by Peter éKimchi Peteé Jo. If you haven’t tried Korean food before, your in for a treat. The pub part of the hotel is a treat too, with 12 taps of speciality beers, and of course, Carlton Draught.
